Actual Sand Gradient

So today I decided to work on a contest entry! My new blogger friend over at Polished Dezinez Addict is having a wonderful contest with the theme of Tropical Paradise. So I walked over to the beach to get some inspiration and it came to me...SAND! There is nothing like looking out at the beautiful water with your toes in the warm sand.

I tried my best to do a nice blue gradient background, its my first try. I used Sinful Colors' Grecian Sun, Revlon's Dreamer, Color Club's Take Me To Your Chateau with a hint of Ulta's Maine Attraction to add a little blue-green.

To get the sand to stick and give it some color, I dabbed Color Club's Nomadic Nude on a make-up sponge and dipped it in the sand, then gently patted my nails. It was quite the pain and I can honestly say I don't think I'll ever be working with sand again, not actual beach sand anyway. Hehe. All in all, I think its a really cute, beachy manicure!

RuPaul Inspiration!

So I've spent the past few days having myself a little RuPaul's Drag Race marathon, because who doesn't love RuPaul and all the drag queens on that show! As I was near the end of season three, RuPaul came out in this fierce number:

I absolutely love the idea of the nude color with the rainbow sequins all over, I couldn't stop staring! I searched my whole collection for a nice nude and thought I didn't have one. Then I remembered the Back To Boho collection I had just received! So I took Color Club's Nomadic Nude, Sephora's Spark-tacular to color the tips and Ulta's Pinata-Yada-Yada for a gradient.

I didn't quite like the Sephora on the tips, I think I'll use a bigger glitter next time, but I fell in love with these nails as much as that dress! Something about the nude color and all the color thrown about just makes me so happy! Unfortunately I took a bath and they peeled right off the next day! Ah well, on to the next manicure!

Nail Mail!

Last week my very best friend sent me a wonderful package full of polish goodies! As soon as I heard the knock on the door, I rushed over and tore it open! There were three lovely books, two handmade hats and tons of polish!

She was kind enough to grab me Color Club's Electro Candy and Back To Boho collections! Because I do love Color Club and was missing those two. And putting them in my "Color Club drawer" filled it up! It was like a tiny victory.

I also received Spoiled's Jewelry Heist, Shuffle The Deck and Pet My Peacock. I was super excited about Man Glaze's Fuggen Ugly though, its my first Man Glaze! And I love matte polish.

The color is a lovely smokey grey, with a hint of sparkle. It dried really quick, which is nice. Then I got the idea to add some glitter and re-mattify it. So I threw on some Shuffle The Deck and topped it with NYC Matte Me Crazy.

I really love the white, black and red glitter. I've always seen matte glitter manicures and loved them, but never tried it myself. I think I'm going to have to do this way more often. I want to thank my friend for sending me all these amazing goodies and I've already got some polish to send back!

On a side note, my cats also enjoyed the package:

New Fauxnad Plate

I just wanted to share the fantastic new fauxnad plate I got in the mail yesterday! It was a copy of the popular Konad Q1 plate. I found it on eBay from samuelwsk333 and it didn't disappoint!

I was dying to use the full nail design up top. I expected to have to cut my nails down a bit because most full nail designs won't fit to my nail, but this one was surprisingly long. The full design is actually too long for my stamper! I decided to go with something light, so I used NYC City Sweets collection's Mint Macaroon with Sinful Colors' Snow Me White.

Here it is with flash:

And without:

The design turned out really well! Around the edges it didn't want to come off the stamper, but its easy to place the little stars and dots where its needed. I really love the little cupcake and ice cream cone, the mint really compliments the design. I'm am so in love with this plate, I'd have to say its my favorite!

Disney Inspiration: She's Like A Spider Waiting For The Kill

Cruella, Cruella De Vil! An evil, yet fashionable woman. I wanted something to capture her explosive temper and obsession for those cute little dalmatians. I also wanted to exude a certain class and not go too over the top.

I started off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Rapid Red, its nice and fiery. I used Zoya's Chloe to spice it up. I like the outcome, it really brings out her crazy temper. But that's not all there is to this manicure!

That's right! Another underside manicure. I really love these, it brings a whole new side to the manicure. Instead of putting the dots on top, I decided to hide her little obsession. Plus, you know those puppies really got under her skin.

I think this has to be one of my favorite Disney inspired manicures to date! I had so much fun doing the little dalmatian spots on the undersides. Off to create more inspiration. Until next time Dahlings!

Disney Inspiration: Hell Of A Guy!

Today my inspiration comes from Hades. He's mean, cruel and ruler of the underworld. I wanted something to represent his fiery temper and hair-do.

I used Ulta's Blue Streak as a nice base. To help the flakie gradient's color I used a bit of Sally Hansen Blue Blizzard on the tips of my nails. For the final touch I sponged on some of Zoya's Maisie for flames. The flakes came out looking a little green, but I still love the outcome.

This post is a little short, but I'm working on some really great ideas for upcoming posts! And I've got a ton of nail mail on the way, so there's that to look forward to. Next time I'll be doing Cruella Deville!

Disney Inspiration: Kevin's A Girl?!

I've been wanting to do nails based on UP! for awhile now. The opening is beautiful, heart wrenching and the rest is pure adventure! I didn't just want to do the balloons, the house or the sky. I wanted to do something new, colorful and fun. So I chose the cute, colorful snipe! I wanted to layer the coloring, but starting with the darker color created problems. It turned out to be a color muddled mess on paper. Starting with the lighter color was just too backwards.

Here is the outcome without flash. To get all the colors to stay bright I had to use a layer of white between every color, which was a bit of a pain. From base to top, the layers are: Butter London Slapper, Sally Hansen Pacific Blue, Sinful Colors Amethyst, Sinful Colors Boom Boom, Sally Hansen Sun Kissed and Sinful Colors Unicorn. I used the sponging technique to make the blending better and add feather like texture.

And here it is with flash! I really love all the colors together, its just so bright and happy. The problem with this manicure is it has about 13 layers, including base and top coat. Its crazy! I spent most of yesterday working on this manicure, but I still love it.

Disney Inspiration: Flower Gleam And Glow

Tangled is one of the newer Disney films, but its just as fantastic as the others in my opinion. Its sure to become its own Disney classic movie. I wanted something magical for this manicure. I really wanted to do the sun symbol that appears all over the kingdom, but I couldn't get it just right. So I decided to focus on the flower that started it all.

As a base I used Ulta's Tutu Cute, a nice airy purple. I layered Pure Ice's Busted for some sparkle, can't forget the glitter! And for once I actually used a stamp, its a plate I got from I'm sure you know that I used Color Club's Gingerbread Man for the magic flower.

I'm actually really surprised that the stamping turned out so well! I don't use them much because I usually get smeared designs or they don't pick up at all! But I think I've learned that when it comes to stamping, metallic polish is your friend. Learn something new everyday!

Disney Inspiration: First Star To The Right

First star to the right and straight on till morning!

I decided to venture back to Neverland, but this time we're not here for the Mermaids. I wanted to re-create the night sky and sparkling magic of Neverland in a subtle manicure. If you call explosions of glitter subtle.

I wanted to show this blurry, yet correct nail first. I placed the tiny glitter star on my right, but when I flip my nails over for a picture the stars shift to the left. I didn't think of that first, next time I'll have to remember. For this manicure I used Sally Hansen Co-Bolt Blue as a nice night sky base. With two coats of Sinful Colors' Nail Junkie for the shining stars. And a little glitter star to the right!

Even though the glitter is green, I like it and it still makes me think of the night sky. Although, if our stars were green, something might be terribly wrong with the atmosphere.

Disney Inspiration: Maleficent's Curse

Maleficent is one of the most terrifying villains in Disney history, but lets not forget the Horned King in Black Cauldron. I wanted a manicure that didn't focus so much on Maleficent's skin and wardrobe color, but more on her dragon form colors and the curse she cast on poor Aurora.

I used my favorite dark purple Finger Paints' Amethyst Atelier as a base. Layered Zoya's Opal for a green fiery look. And the tape method for the spindle points, which are in Color Club's Gingerbread....because I really need to purchase another gold that doesn't smell like cookies. It really takes away from the whole evil part of the manicure, what villain bakes cookies?

I think this manicure just brings out the perfect sense of evil, without going too over the top. I wish I could've gotten the points a little thinner and even, but they look pretty good.

Today's post is pretty short because I have to get back to creating more inspiration and swatches. :) Until Wednesday!  Enjoy!

Disney Inspiration: Shattered Dream

So, I've been asked to do a Cinderella themed manicure. But I'm going to take a different approach than the original Cinderella. I've watched Cinderella 3 at least 100 times, if not more...let's be honest. It has catchy songs and takes a new twist on the story.

If you haven't seen it, the evil godmother gets a hold of the fairy godmother's wand, turns back time and makes everything change when Cinderella is kept locked up and Anastasia's big 'ol foot fits the slipper. But the part I'm getting to is when the evil godmother takes the matching slipper from Cinderella and tosses it over the staircase, where it shatters on the floor.

It was requested that I use Sinful Color's Cinderella as a base and I certainly did! But on top I layered just a bit of Color Club's Covered In Diamonds. Now my camera didn't like the beautiful color of Cinderella, so it does look a bit green. But I did have a picture with flash to bring out the colors of the shattered slipper.

I think I'll have to try my hand at Cinderella again, maybe include those silly stepsisters. You can look forward to a new post every other day, I'm going to try to keep this blog up and running for as long as I can! And I've already got big plans for when I reach 100 readers! :)

Just My Nails For The Weekend!

I've decided I need to try harder to post at least every other day to keep up with this blog and help it grow. So, sadly no Disney Inspiration today, there will be one on Saturday though! Today I'm just sharing my nails for the weekend.

I wanted something bright and colorful, so I used the bright purple Cosmetic Arts from the Ursula nails. And topped it off with Finger Paints' Special Effect flakies. I used Flecked first, then Twisted and Motley on top of that. I really like the outcome of it, its nice and bright in the sun.

Also, on a side note! I finally made a Facebook page for the blog. So please go and follow that. Pixel's Polish!

Disney Inspiration: Poor Unfortunate Souls

So, I've thought about it and decided that the villains should get some attention as well!

Ursula is the absolute diva of the sea, not to mention truly evil. Although when you think about it, how exactly does she paint her nails under water? Hmm. No matter, I'm sure she'd rock this manicure on land when she's busy stealing princes from other women.

I did a little layering this time. Starting out with Finger Paints' Amethyst Atelier as a base, its my favorite dark purple. Then Wet 'N Wild's Eggplant Frost for some shine. On top of that I used a deep purple with a pinch of glitter, its an unnamed Color Club that I got in the All About Color collection at Ross. To top that off I used Sally Hansen Ink Splatter shatter to create a gritty tentacle type look. But, there's a secret to this manicure...

Now I've never done painting underneath my nails, but this just felt right. Ursula does have tentacles and underneath the top side, there's purple underneath. I used Cosmetic Arts' unnamed bright purple for spice!

I love the underside of this manicure and will definitely be incorporating more of this technique into my series. But don't worry, I won't go overboard with it! Its just feisty enough for sassy villains.
