Quick Second Rainbow Glitter Comparison

Since my birthday is tomorrow, I was able to go on a little polish spree! And, I found a bottle of Ulta's Pinata-yada-yada. As you saw last time I did a rainbow glitter comparison (Here.), I preferred Milani's Jewel Fx Gems. So, instead of doing a new comparison with all the glitters, I decided to do a comparison of Milani and Ulta.

Milani Gems on the left and Ulta Pinata-yada-yada on the right.

In my opinion the glitter in the Ulta looks more mirrored than the glitter in the Milani. The yellow in the Milani is really subtle, where as the Ulta is bright and gold. All of the glitter looks about the same size and I really like both. The blue glitter in the Milani is bigger than the blue in the Ulta, but the small blue glitter in Ulta is much darker. I think that both of these glitters are great! I just can't pick one, because they're each colorful in their own way.

Enjoy!

Disney Inspiration: Mermaid's Lagoon

I've been thinking a TON about Disney lately, most likely because I'm planning on going to One More Disney Day for my birthday! I can't even imagine being able to spend 24 hours in Disneyland and its so rare an occasion. So its safe to say my next few manicures will be Disney related. And what better way to start than by dropping by Neverland for some inspiration.

(Photo from Alce1977's Deviant Art)

Even though the lovely ladies in the Mermaid's Lagoon only get a few moments, its just enough to pull you under water. I wanted something to represent the beautiful water, but also the magic of it all.

So I pulled together Sinful Colors' Savage, China Glaze's Fairy Dust and Fingerpaints' Special Effects Flakie Motley. The sad part is that my camera couldn't pick up the beauty of the combination on my nails, but luckily I was able to capture just some of the glimmer on a swatch.

I am in love with this beautiful combo! To me, this really captures Mermaid's Lagoon and the magic of Neverland. I'm just sad I couldn't get the effect to show on my nails, but they look just like the swatch in person.

I cannot wait to do another Disney inspired combination like this! Maybe next time I'll venture down the rabbit hole.                                                           Enjoy!

Nail Mail And Haul!

So I admit, I haven't been posting any nail art lately. I just haven't gotten inspiration or enough time to do anything. But yesterday I received some nail mail!

I ordered Bundle Monster's nail art brush set, decorative nail tape and a wheel of fimo bows! I'm so excited about this mail. I can't wait to try out the brushes, dotting tools and everything. Here is a better look:

And a closer look at the fimo bows:

I also got a chance to go by Big Lots, not somewhere you'd expect polish to be, but sometimes you can hit the jackpot! Funny thing was, my mom had taken me with her to get herself a new computer mouse for cheap. But as my routine, I just had to check for polish and I'm so glad that I did! I found out they had these packs of two Revlon polishes for two dollars! I immediately went through them all and found five packs I really wanted. They also had a bin full of make-up that I dug two Sally Hansens out of!

From left to right: Sally Hansen HD LCD, Sweet Tart, Luxe Laque, Sunshine Sparkle, Minted, Super Nature, Wind Fall, Blue Lagoon, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Blue Blizzard, Modern Grace and PLum Night. I know what you're thinking, there are only nine Revlons when there should be ten, but my mom liked Peach Nectar so I gave it to her.

Now for the bad news, five out of ten of my nails have broken. So I think its time to cut them down evenly and let them grow again. I hate doing this, it makes my nails look hideous. (Not that anything is wrong with short nails, I just prefer my own long.) So the next manicure post my poor nails will be short. But since they're short, maybe I'll try some full nail stamps!

My next post won't be until tomorrow though, because tonight I'll be getting my hands plenty dirty by making sushi and a rainbow cake. Since my birthday is on the 26th! Until next time!

Enjoy!

Versatile Blogger Award!

I was kind enough to be nominated by Sarah at Starlight Radiance! I was surprised to see her comment on one of my posts to tell me. This is my first award! Thank you Sarah!

Accepting this award comes with a few rules:

1. Nominate 15 fellow bloggers.
2. Inform the bloggers of their nomination.
3. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
4. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
5. Add the Versatile Blogger Award picture to your blog post.

The bloggers I will be nominating are:

I tried to look for new bloggers that haven't gotten this award yet. They're all lovely blogs.

As for the 7 random facts about myself:

1. I've been a tom boy for most of my life, but since my late teens I have become extremely girly. And I absolutely love it.

2. I'm actually really horrible at painting my nails neatly, I usually get it all over my fingers. I just hide it because I'm pretty good at clean up.

3. I have three cats that each have their own personality. Mischief, Mayhem and King. I have no idea I would end up with three, but I'm alright with that. Although any more and I'll become a crazy cat lady.

4.  I've always wanted to be a baker. Something about creating something not only beautiful, but tasty! I do occasionally bake in my own home though. And I love cooking as well. I recently learned how to make sushi!

5. I have a small hobby of streaming myself playing video games for my friends. I'm not that great at commentary, but I somehow manage to make them laugh and keep wanting more. Occasionally I'll do it while intoxicated.

6. I've been with my husband for seven years, we've been married for one year. I can't see myself with anyone else. I love him dearly. And he accepts my polish obsession, so he's a real keeper!

7. Back on the topic of nail polish, I have a routine that no matter what store I step in to...I MUST see if they have a polish section and thoroughly look through it. And probably end up taking a bottle or two home...or ten.

Well, enough about me! I've got to tell all the lovely bloggers about their award.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow...Glitters!

So yesterday I was lucky enough to stumble on Milani Gems! And I have to say I'm really impressed with this rainbow glitter. Earlier this year I also got my hands on Sephora Spark-tacular and Nicole by O.P.I Rainbow In The S-Kylie. Once I got home with the Milani, I immediately thought I should do a comparison of the three!

For starters, you can clearly tell that the Sephora is significantly smaller glitter than the other two and that the Milani looks pretty tightly packed with glitter.

In the picture above I did one coat of each on my nail wheel. Now, you don't always get bad coverage of the Sephora. I didn't have much luck with it though. The Nicole gives good coverage, but I think that the glitter in the Milani is brighter than the others.

This time I did two coats! The Sephora looks much better, but the glitter is very small. Not there's anything wrong with that, but I like to go big and bright! The Nicole and Milani are evenly matched, but I still think the colors in the Milani are brighter.

My conclusion: They're all great in their own way. If you want something cute and subtle, I'd go for Sephora. Nicole and Milani are matched, but it looks like there's much more silver glitter in Nicole which is making the Milani look brighter. In the end, Milani wins me over.

Enjoy!

China Glaze Techno Review

Now I may be a little behind, but I wanted to share my thoughts on China Glaze's Techno from their new Electropop collection. I've found myself addicted to glitter polishes, which strikes me as odd because I hate loose glitter. You all know, it gets everywhere and sticks for....years. I decided to layer it on top of Sinful Colors Boom Boom, which is a nice bright pink.

Techno has big chunky hexagon holographic glitter and tiny holographic glitter as well. Its pretty tightly packed so you get good coverage. I think above I used two coats, just to even out the glitter. I couldn't quite get my camera to pick up just how sparkling the big glitter is, I wish it did because its lovely.

This is the best shot I could get of how shiny it is. But it still doesn't do it justice! I hope you decide to go see for yourself and pick it up. In my book, its a must have!

Enjoy!

Off Hiatus And Haul-tastic!

Hello ladies and possible gentlemen out there! I know I gave no warning when I left, I had a case of manicure block. You know, that time when it takes hours to figure out what you want to do with your nails and when you finally decide and do it....you don't like it, ugh! And also an all day blackout in my building. But I am back! I think part of going into hiding was caused by waiting by my mailbox for new nail art supplies. I ordered thin striping tape and little fimo bows and I've been almost dying to do a stripe manicure. Anyway, in this post I'll be sharing my January and February hauls and also a manicure with China Glaze's Techno! New from their Electropop collection, which I am all over.

First though, I present my January haul!

From left to right: China Glaze Spontaneous, Finger Paints Raspberry Taffeta, Color Club Gingerbread Man, Orly La Chateau, Orly Charged Up, Sally Hansen Insta-dri Lickety Split Lime and Nicole by O.P.I Rainbow In The S-kylie.

Here's my February haul!

Left to right: Seche Vite top coat (my first time trying!), China Glaze Techno, China Glaze First Mate, Wet 'N Wild On A Trip, Wet 'N Wild I Need A Refresh-mint, Wet 'N Wild Candy-Licious, Sinful Colors Unicorn, Sinful Colors Innocent, Sinful Colors Amethyst, Sinful Colors Soul Mate and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Sun Kissed.

In the middle you'll see a nice buffer block I picked up at Sally's Beauty. At first I didn't think it was necessary, but now I see the light! When I first used it, it made my nails so smooth and shiny! They even feel a little healthier as well. So I really suggest that if you don't have a buffer block that you get one. This one was $3.99, but worth it. And I think it should last a long time. Its also easy to clean off.

The Wet 'N Wild's in the middle are new! And I think they've really improved on their product. They were all creme as far as I could tell, but I prefer cremes. The polish itself seems much thicker than usual Wet 'N Wild products and they all have the nice wide, rounded tip brush! I found these at my local Walgreens, they were on sale for buy two get one free and each costs $2.99.

For the last of my haul, a story I have to share. I'd been hearing about these Revlon dupes of Deborah Lippmann's Glitter In The Air and Bad Romance and how people were searching for them high and low. I'd looked around myself and had no luck. Well today was the day! I was looked around Rite Aid, just browsing. I turned and saw them, one bottle of Whimsical and two bottles of Scandalous. Now I admit, I did gasp and made an awkward scene, it was sad. (Please tell me someone has done this over polish, I don't want to be alone here!) My husband laughed at me and told me to grab one of each...I probably had them in my hand before he finished his sentence. Here they are:

Seeing as how this post is plenty long, I'll post my Techno manicure separately.

Enjoy!
